Bubble Up

Atlanta, Georgia – They spit. They chew. They scratch. As hard as it might be to believe, some people find this behavior by baseball players to be disgusting.

Take heart. If this series of photos is any indication, more baseball players are turning to bubble gum and blowing bubbles, instead of chewing and spitting tobacco.

The first series is Atlanta Braves future Hall of Famer Chipper Jones, whom I found passing the time at third base during a 17-inning game against Houston before his bubble popped.

In Geneva, Illinois, I found an unidentified Beloit Snappers relief pitcher bubbling up in the bullpen during a Class A Midwest League game. Finally, we see Wheaton College infielder Luke Ross working his bubble gum in the dugout during a college game in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Maybe we have spotted a trend.
